runv.club

A Brazilian community to learn Unix/Linux, build your own personal page, chat at a calmer pace, and rediscover the internet as a place to create.

runv.club is a Brazilian community in the tilde style: a calm, human, and accessible space to learn Unix and Linux, build personal pages, try out classic tools, exchange ideas, and build an online presence without the rush of the modern web.

Inspired by the spirit of old pubnixes and public community Unix systems, runv values curiosity, autonomy, text, terminal, IRC, hacker culture, and respectful community life.

  • A Brazilian community to learn, create, and live together on Unix/Linux.
  • Your own space on the web, with terminal, IRC, learning, and community.
  • Less algorithm. More learning, autonomy, text, and presence.

MANIFESTO

What is runv?

runv.club is an online community in the tilde style, built for a Brazilian audience. Instead of relying only on social networks, infinite feeds, and closed platforms, the idea is to go back to the essentials: accounts on a shared server, personal pages, terminal, IRC, hands-on learning, and community life among people who care about technology, digital culture, and free knowledge.

runv exists to be a welcoming place for beginners, the curious, students, professionals, and enthusiasts who want to get to know the Unix/Linux world better, without pressure, without elitism, and without the feeling that you need to show up already an expert.

WHO IT'S FOR

Who it's for

runv is for anyone who wants to:

  • learn Unix and Linux hands-on;
  • better understand shell, terminal, SSH, files, and servers;
  • build their own personal page;
  • study programming, automation, and systems administration;
  • meet people with similar interests;
  • take part in a calm, friendly, collaborative community;
  • experience a more crafted, creative, and human internet.

You don't need to be an expert. You don't need to know everything. You don't need to arrive ready.

Everyone is welcome.

VALUES

The spirit of the community

runv.club was built to recall the old public and communal Unix environments — the so-called pubnixes — where people met to learn, explore, chat, publish, and create together.

It's a project that values:

  • curiosity
  • constant learning
  • autonomy
  • kindness
  • knowledge sharing
  • creativity
  • respectful community life

Here, learning and community go hand in hand.

DAY TO DAY

  • publish your personal page;
  • learn commands, file organization, and classic tools;
  • chat on the community IRC and ask for help in real time;
  • study programming and automation;
  • exchange ideas with other people;
  • follow the community's projects and experiments;
  • build your online space in a simple, personal way.

FIRST STEPS

How it usually starts

The first step is usually simple: you generate an SSH key, send the request through the Join page, wait for the team's review, and once your account is approved, you log into the server to explore at your own pace.

After that, most people start by editing their own page, trying out commands, reading the wiki, running chat to join #runv, and gradually getting to know the tools and the people in the community.

If you're just arriving

Start with the Join page, then read the wiki, and save the address entre@runv.club.

PARTNERSHIP

Supported by Portal IDEA

runv.club is fully supported by Portal IDEA, an institution dedicated to expanding access to knowledge and educating people through online learning.

This partnership gives the project its foundation and purpose: to build a community that brings together technology, learning, digital autonomy, and real exchange between people.

HISTORY

About the origin

The community was built by Pablo Murad (~pmurad) as a way to recover the memory of the old public Unix systems and bring that experience into today's Brazilian context.

The idea behind runv is simple and powerful: to offer a space where technology becomes, once again, a place for meeting, discovery, learning, and personal expression.
